For over a decade I worked directly with High School English Classes to take a highly technical Annual Environmental Monitoring Document produced by my employer DOE, and had them write a Summary document that could be easily read and understood by the general public. If “High-School students could understand and write it, certainly the public could as well.
This is an example of one of those documents. The ideas, layout, and writing was a product of those students. I would have scientists of various expertise visit the class to answer highly technical questions and help them understand what they were writing. These Summary document were distributed nationally to all the DOE facilities, and it became a standard from which other laboratories followed our example to work with High Schools. The document had wide distribution in Washington DC, including the White House. This is but one of them.
